THE RECONSTRUCTED VILLAGE
Welcome to the "other Algarve"
Aldeia da Pedralva, a rural village in the municipality of Vila do Bispo, which was once inhabited by more than 100 people, has begun a painful process of desertification over the last 25 years.
Aldeia da Pedralva THE RECONSTRUCTION
In 2006, when we found this village, it had only 9 original inhabitants and a group of around 50 houses in an advanced state of ruin. Only nine of these houses met minimum conditions for habitability.
Faced with this scenario, and determined to restore life and dignity to this village, we moved forward with the first phase of this complex urban recovery process. For two years, between 2006 and 2008, we sought out over 200 owners/heirs in Portugal and Europe to negotiate and purchase a set of 30 houses.

Aldeia da PedralvaURBAN RECOVERY
Once this phase was over, we began the urban recovery process, trying to faithfully reproduce the rural ambience, achieved through the use of restored furniture in all the houses, as well as the use of construction materials faithful to the old buildings.
The Vila do Bispo City Council also had the vision of recovering its heritage and history, deciding that this was the opportunity to recover and, consequently, gain another village for its municipality. And so it invested in the necessary infrastructure, including the installation of all the electrical wiring underground, new lighting, new plumbing and new paving of the streets, maintaining the layout and spirit of the old villages.
The Aldeia da Pedralva, which aims to be an Active Village Tourism, also offers an activity center with 32 bicycles and more than 300 km of Mountain Bike trails, a surf school, hiking equipment, diving courses among many other nature activities.

Aldeia da PedralvaNEW LIFE IN THE VILLAGE
In 2010, Aldeia da Pedralva was ready for a new challenge: to have life!
The Aldeia da Pedralva Tourism Board contributed to this objective, with 26 country houses operating as tourist facilities, a typical restaurant “Sitio da Pedralva” with its Central Café, several common areas such as the swimming pool, the village oven area or the bicycle washing station.
